The Port Authority of Jamaica reached a memorandum of understanding with U.S.-based ferry operator Paradise Express Ferry for a ferry service linking Jamaica's Montego Bay, Ocho Rios and Negril resort districts. Announced at a May 6 press conference in Kingston, the service will initially use Montego Bay cruise port's small craft jetty and terminal building for embarkation and disembarkation.
Jamaican government officials said Paradise Ferry Express will build a permanent pier and terminal facility, which is scheduled to open by February of 2015. Garry Johnson, president and CEO Paradise Ferry, said his company is "looking to commence negotiations" with Jamaica's Urban Development Company to acquire the property to build the terminal.

Johnson described the service as "an attraction, an excursion. You can take the ferry from Montego Bay to Ocho Rios or from Montego Bay to Negril and back, and see the island in a way you would never have seen it before."
