Considering it was the first city in Mexico to be granted Gay Travel Approved status by GayTravel.com, it's no surprise Puerto Vallarta is home to a plethora of gay-friendly accommodations, attractions and activities-all of which distinguish it from rival destinations in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Friday's announcement comes just days after the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Board revealed yet another increase in visitor arrivals. Earlier this month, TravelPulse's Michael Schottey wrote that "in the first five months of 2016, Puerto Vallarta has seen a hotel occupancy rate of 74.5 percent-its highest level in a decade and 1.5 percent more than in the same period of 2015."
It's likely no coincidence that the rise has coincided with the town's emergence as one of the world's premier LGBT destinations.
