Germany's sixth largest airport is the best gateway to one of the most multifaceted regions in Europe and from where you can quickly reach all your destinations in Southwest Germany.

The southwestern part of Germany-otherwise known as the state of Baden-Württemberg-is famous for its forests, high plateaus, half-timbered houses as well as the car industry. Stuttgart, the capital of Baden-Württemberg, is home to Mercedes-Benz and Porsche and is surrounded by scenic routes.

Schwarzwaldhochstraße (Black Forest High Road)

This oldest and best-known tourist road in the Black Forest is about 40 miles long and winds its way up to over 3,000 feet. It starts in the town of Baden-Baden and leads through the forest along the ridge of the mountain range to Freudenstadt.

On the way, you will pass charming hotels, cozy restaurants and magnificent views of the Rhine and the French mountains of the Vosges.

Burgenstraße (Castle Road)

Southwest Germany is loaded with castles both big and small, some of which date back to the 13th century. In the northern part of the state, the Castle Road originally went from Mannheim to Nuremberg but was extended all the way to Prague, which makes it more than 600 miles long.

The most famous and movie-like castles are Mannheim and Heidelberg. From there, the tour goes on through wonderful gardens and palaces in the Neckar Valley and Bavaria before crossing into the Czech Republic.

Badische und Württembergische Weinstraße (Baden and Württemberg Wine Roads)

The two wine regions, Baden and Württemberg, each have their own scenic wine road about 500 miles long, which makes Southwest Germany a great destination for wine enthusiasts.

The Württemberg wine road passes Heilbronn, Stuttgart and the Neckar Valley where you can sample local wines such as Trollinger, Riesling, Lemberger or Müller-Thurgau.

The Baden wine road starts close to Heidelberg. It passes the Black Forest and ends in the very south at Lake Constance. The road is lined with small cozy wine taverns where you get to sample the Burgunder wines.

Bertha Benz Memorial Route

Bertha Benz was the wife of Carl Benz, the inventor of the automobile. In 1898, without the knowledge of her husband, she and her two sons took the car and went on a long-distance ride from Mannheim to Pforzheim and back to prove to the public that this means of transportation was suitable for everyday life.

The road leads through the Rhine Valley, the Kraichgau, also known as German Tuscany, and the northern Black Forest. There is also no shortage of castles and fortresses along the way.

To make these beautiful scenic routes even more accessible, Delta Air Lines provides direct flights from Atlanta to Stuttgart six days per week. You can also connect through Frankfurt, Duesseldorf, Munich or Zurich on most other airlines.

If you would like to make your arrival or departure easier for an elderly family member or treat yourself to some luxury at the start of your holiday, book your own personal VIP Service at Stuttgart Airport.

The VIP Arrival package includes pick-up at the aircraft with a Mercedes VIP limousine or an escort through air bridge; assistance with entry formalities; porter service for up to four items of luggage; escort to the public sector of the terminal for an all-inclusive price for two passengers: 130€, each passenger and 50€ for each additional passenger.
