Land and sea visitors to the Turks and Caicos have surged significantly
in the first half of 2004. The archipelago has hosted newly one million
combined land and cruise ship travelers through June, with double-digit year-over-year
growth in both categories, according to Experience Turks and Caicos officials.
The Turks and Caicos reported 408,749 air arrivals through
June, an increase of 13.64 percent over the corresponding period in 2023. The country also hosted 590,105 cruise passengers in the first
six months of 2024, an increase of 19.45 percent compared with the same period
in 2023.
Air arrivals in the Turks and Caicos surged in June,
representing the destination’s largest year-over-year increase of any month.
The archipelago hosted 72,009 airline visitors in June 2024, a 28.4 percent increase
compared with the same period in 2023.
June also marked a summit for cruise arrivals, as the 110,504
passengers embarking on 24 Turks and Caicos cruise calls in June represented a towering
82.65 percent increase compared with the same period in 2023.
Cruise ship arrivals “started out in a deficit in the first
quarter of 2024 compared to 2023 figures,” but “picked up tremendously between
April and June,” Experience Turks and Caicos officials said in a statement.
“Data shows that [higher visitation] will continue into the
winter season,” said Josephine Connolly, the Turks and Caicos’ tourism
minister. “I am very excited about the new American Airlines fight into South
Caicos in February,” said Connolly.
The new service “will
open up our multi-island destination to even more visitors and spend for our
industry,” she added.
