March will be another busy month for travel as Americans look to thaw out from the long winter, celebrate beloved holidays, catch marquee sporting events in person and enjoy a hard-earned spring break from the day-to-day grind.

Fortunately, there are plenty of exceptional destinations to choose from whether you're planning to stay domestic or venture abroad. Nonetheless, some places make more sense than others this time of year.

Here are the top destinations to visit this March.

Where to Travel for Women's History Month

March is Women's History Month (March 1-31) and travelers have a plethora of places to choose from when it comes to celebrating the vital role that women have played in American history. However, Western New York is a must-visit, specifically the Women's Rights National Historical Park in Seneca Falls and the Susan B. Anthony Museum & House in Rochester.

The two attractions are only about an hour apart so travelers can experience both on the same day.

Visitors to the Empire State in March can also check out the Belva Lockwood Inn in Owego. This historic, boutique inn is located in the former home of Belva Ann Lockwood, who was the first female presidential candidate to appear on a ballot when she ran for the Equal Rights Party in 1884.

Elsewhere on the East Coast, Washington, D.C. is another superb place to celebrate Women's History Month. The National Museum of Women in the Arts and the Daughters of the American Revolution Museum are some of the notable sites that visitors won't want to miss while touring the nation's capital this time of year.

Where to Travel for St Patrick's Day

In 2024, St. Patrick's Day falls on a Sunday (March 17), meaning travelers can expect an extended green-themed party lasting all weekend.

For those looking to celebrate in the U.S., Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago, Pittsburgh and New York are some of the best cities for St. Paddy's festivities as visitors can look forward to parades, festivals, concerts, bar crawls, running events and much more.

For a more authentic celebration, travelers can head to Dublin, Ireland for the the iconic St. Patrick's Festival Parade, one of many European events worth traveling for in 2024.

Where to Travel for Sports

Sports fans will have plenty of exciting destinations to choose from this March. Major League Baseball fans can catch spring training matchups throughout Florida and the Phoenix metropolitan area all month long during the preseason Grapefruit and Cactus Leagues.

Late March will see the return of the NCAA Tournament and March Madness. Dayton, Ohio (March 19-20) will once again host the First Four before the tournament heads to Brooklyn, Charlotte, Indianapolis, Omaha, Pittsburgh, Salt Lake City, Memphis and Spokane, Washington for games taking place March 21-24.

Boston, Dallas, Detroit and Los Angeles will host the tournament's regional semifinals and finals during the last weekend in March (March 28-31).

Basketball fans can pack their bags for Albany, New York and Portland, Oregon to catch the women's tournament action in the pressure-packed Sweet 16 and Elite Eight rounds (March 29-April 1).

Golf lovers will want to set their sights on Florida in March as the Sunshine State will host a handful of tournaments including the Arnold Palmer Invitational in Orlando (March 7-10), THE PLAYERS Championship in Ponte Vedra Peach (March 14-17) and the Valspar Championship in Palm Harbor (March 21-24).

Where to Travel for Spring Break

When it comes to selecting a spring break destination, there's no wrong answer. However, there are some popular and safe destinations to choose from this March, including Lake Tahoe, the Florida Keys and Cancun and Los Cabos south of the border in sun-kissed Mexico.

If lengthy passport wait times are preventing you from traveling abroad, consider an exotic escape to San Juan, Puerto Rico or Hawaii. In San Juan, The Condado Collection boasts a trio of upscale, beachfront properties ideal for families, groups, couples and even solo travelers.

Meanwhile, in the Islands of Hawaii, guests can stay in the heart of the action in Honolulu at ESPACIO The Jewel of Waikiki or unpack and unwind at the iconic Mauna Kea Resort on the Kohala Coast.

Travelers can also celebrate the start of the spring season in Washington, D.C. during the National Cherry Blossom Festival, which kicks off on March 20. The month-long party includes live music, parades, a kite festival, art installations, local restaurant specials and so much more.
