Top golfers are playing the links in Honduras this week during the PGA Tour Latinomerica taking place through May 8. Names such as Justin Hueber, Esteban Restrepo, John Young Kim and Rick Cochran III are sure to be familiar for the sport's biggest fans. These stars will be playing alongside 140 more leading professionals from 22 countries in Honduras.

The Central American country is renowned for beautiful beaches and unspoiled wildlife - and now golf is coming front and center. Not very many people are aware that Tela, Atlantida, also is home to one of the best golf courses in the Americas, located at the Indura Beach & Golf Resort.

The world-class course was designed by Gary Player, who is widely considered one of the sport's top professionals. He won nine major tournaments: the Masters in 1961, 1974 and 1978, U.S. Open 1965, the British Open in 1959, 1968 and 1974 and the PGA Championship in 1962 and 1972. Player is also known as one of the top architects of courses in the world and has designed more than 325 courses worldwide, including some of the most eco-friendly courses that maintain the natural landscapes that they inhabit.

One of the most unique aspects of the course is its nine holes located in the jungle. Have you ever thought of playing golf with monkeys, ocelots, birds, crocodiles and pichinches? Well, now you can. The other nine holes afford players stunning views of the Jeannette Kawas Punta Izopo nature parks.

It's not just the golf course that has stunning scenery. Tela is blessed with beautiful landscapes, freshwater lagoons, beautiful beaches, coastal ecosystems and rare native species. The resort is close to the Lancetilla Botanical Garden full of rare plants, the Capiro Bank Coral Reef for snorkeling and scuba diving, Pico Bonito National Park for bird watching and rafting, and the Cayos Cochinos Archipelago.

The Indura Resort, in particular, is located on the tropical coast of Tela Bay and offers a variety of activities for those not interested in golfing. Padde boards, kayaks, sailing and snorkeling are offered on site. The resort also offers scheduled yoga and Tai Chi classes on the beach. For relaxation, head to the pool or the Maina Spa for a coconut scrub or a Mayan cacao massage.

Accommodations continue the tropical feel of the resort with ocean and garden views and a variety of spacious suite categories. Oceanfront junior suites are set among the mangroves and overlook the sea with wraparound terraces and large seating areas. The design features local Honduran products and sustainable materials such as bamboo floors, walls constructed with local pine, and Guanacaste decorative wood accents.

Tela Bay and the Indura Resort are easily accessible from several U.S. hubs. Flights to San Pedro Sula International Airport are available from Houston; Miami; Newark, N.J.; Atlanta; and New York JFK.
