Food is an essential part of travel. Yes, you need to eat to survive, but you also must eat to truly experience a new destination.

Morocco is a beautiful country that should be on everyone's bucket list. From mountains to deserts to cities filled with unique history, everywhere you turn you'll find people coming together for delicious food.

Grab some bread and mint tea because you can't go wrong with touring Morocco and trying any of these dishes:

Couscous

The food so nice they named it twice! In fact, you can trace the origins of couscous back to the Berber people of Morocco.

Mustapha of Beber Walk grew up in a Berber family and guides tours all around Morocco. He said is favorite home dish "is couscous with seven vegetables and lamb meat because it is [a] famous dish prepared by the mother every Friday."

Even if you've tasted couscous at home before and didn't like it, you must try it in Morocco. I didn't like it stateside, but everything changed once I had authentic couscous in Morocco. The taste is much fresher, and it pairs so well with cooked vegetables.

Plus, knowing how important it is to family meals and the time commitment it takes to prepare couscous, you can feel the love behind the dish.

Kefta

Beef or lamb is mixed with fresh spices, rolled into tiny balls and cooked in a tomato and onion sauce. As the dish is winding down, the chef will crack a few eggs on top and let those cook before serving. You can order it without the eggs if you wish, but why not try new things? Be sure to save some bread to dip in the sauce because it is addicting.

Goat

Speaking of trying new things, why not step out of your comfort zone and sample a dish few Americans have eaten?

When it comes to goat, Mustapha says, "I love goat and recommend it because it has a special flavor totally different from beef and lamb. Goat meat is tender and chewy, but once it is cooked well, it becomes sticky and tasty."
