The underwater restaurant craze has reached Europe.
Norway will be the location of the continent's first submerged dining attraction, which appropriately enough, will be named Under, according to the Evening Standard.
Being designed by Snøhetta, the Norway restaurant joins a growing number of such underwater attractions around the world. Examples of underwater restaurants can already be seen in the Maldives, Dubai and even Florida, which is also home to an underwater casino.
Half of the structure will be submerged about 16 feet below the ocean and will include enormous, ocean-floor-to-surfaces, plus 36-foot wide windows that allow diners to view the ocean.
The building's appearance will resemble a sunken ship with a periscope, the Evening Standard reported. It will also be designed to withstand harsh sea conditions. Walls, for example, will be constructed of thick concrete designed to resist the pressure and changes of Norway's coastline, according to Lonely Planet.
Other notable design features include a walkway leading to the restaurant, with signage providing education and information about the local marine biodiversity and coastline.
The building is also designed to be sensitive to the surrounding environment. For example, its concrete was selected specifically to make it easy for mussels to cling to the structure. Ultimately, the hope is that the area will grow into a thriving artificial reef.
In addition, researchers will be visiting the site to help ensure conditions are optimal for surrounding sea life.
The restaurant meanwhile, will accommodate up to 100 guests and include three levels, among them a champagne bar and a submerged wardrobe area.
And in a choice that may be slightly off-putting for some diners as they watch beautiful fish swim by outside the windows, the restaurant's menu will include various locally sourced seafood.
For those planning a trip to Norway, the new submerged restaurant will be located near the southern village of Baly.
Previous projects by Snøhetta include the Norwegian National Opera and the September 11 Memorial Museum Pavilion in New York City.
