What destinations are calling to American travelers this holiday season?

After reviewing more than two million booked itineraries for roundtrip flights departing from U.S. airports from December 17 and returning by December 30, 2024, the travel insurance company has revealed the top 10 destinations for holiday travelers.

Allianz found that 83 percent of the itineraries were for domestic travel while 17 percent represent international locations.

"The most wonderful time of the year is approaching, and Americans across the country are starting to plan and pack for their winter getaways," said Daniel Durazo, director of external communications at Allianz Partners USA in a statement.

He added, "Celebrating the festive season with family and friends can quickly turn stressful due to unexpected travel mishaps like significant travel delays, trip cancellations or even serious medical issues while traveling. Purchasing a travel insurance protection plan to protect pre-paid non-refundable travel investments from financial losses due to covered events can help keep holiday memories sweet."

The top 10 destinations in the US this year include:

  • New York City
  • Seattle
  • Orlando
  • Las Vegas
  • Phoenix
  • Dallas Fort-Worth
  • Los Angeles
  • Salt Lake City
  • Atlanta
  • Miami

Top international destinations include:

  • Cancun, Mexico
  • San Jose Del Cabo
  • London, England
  • Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
  • Punta Cana, Dominican Republic
  • Nassau, Bahamas
  • Montego Bay, Jamaica
  • Oranjestad, Aruba
  • Liberia, Costa Rica
  • Providenciales, Turks and Caicos

For the fourth year in a row, the Big Apple takes the number one spot, transforming into a winter wonderland, drawing millions of visitors with its dazzling lights, world-famous decorations, nutcracker ballets, ice skating rinks and time-honored traditions.

Orlando and Miami’s sunny coastlines attract those looking for a warm winter retreat, landing the number three and number ten spots.

As an international destination, Mexico continues to top travelers’ travel wish lists with Cancun leading the way in first place for the seventh year in a row. On the west coast of the country, San Jose Del Cabo ranks second while Puerto Vallarta lands fourth place.

Beach destinations including Punta Cana come in at number five, Nassau at six, Montego Bay at seven, Aruba at eight, Liberia Costa Rica debuting at nine and Providenciales, Turks and Caicos at ten.

Not to be left out, across the pond, Americans are also heading to London, England, coming in at the number three spot on the international list.
