Thanksgiving is almost here, and people are readying to get up and get out of town and for those who have questions about the best ways to navigate the holidays, Christopher Elliott shared some advice on the Huffington Post.
With crowded roads, navigation is key and for advice on that topic, Elliott turned to Waze.
"It crunched the holiday traffic data and found that the best time to leave for your trip is Thanksgiving morning. If you start your drive before noon, you'll avoid most traffic. The day before that is the worst, with increased usage from late morning until the end of the day," Waze told Elliott.
Tickets home during Christmas are best purchased about six weeks out says Elliott.
"If you plan to fly in December, this is the ideal time to book a ticket. The best fares for larger airports can be found about six weeks before your departure date, according to data from Hipmunk, an online travel site. You'll average a 14 percent discount over this year's costliest holiday tickets," Elliott reports.
Skyscanner recommends that buying air tickets for Christmas can save as much as 6 percent.

While saving on air might be easier, hotel prices will be high.
"If you're planning to stay at a hotel, prepare for sticker shock. Rates are up about 5 percent this year and they're projected to go even higher in 2017 (up from 3 percent to 5 percent in North America, according to projections by the research firm Advito)," Elliott noted.
