Sure, if you want to golf and you are thinking about someplace warm, more than likely the first place that comes to mind is Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. With more than 100 golf courses to speak of, you have no excuse not to play. But what if you have the family in tow or this trip is about quality time with your significant other? Here are a few other things to do while you are in town.

The Beach

Now I know that this should probably go without saying, but Myrtle Beach is on the beach. For those who don't know, they are smack dab right in the middle of the Grand Strand, a 60+ mile stretch of beautiful beach in South Carolina. Here you'll find plenty of places to spend your days sending a kite aloft on the Carolina breeze, working on your base tan or just doing a whole lot of not much at all where the surf meets the sand.

But once you've had your feel of sunbathing, don't leave the beach without walking the famous boardwalk. Completed in 2010, the 1.6 mile stretch of oceanfront is home to restaurants, bars and shops. Visit the Myrtle Beach Skywheel, which at the time it was built, was the largest Ferris wheel east of the Mississippi.

Food and Drink

There are well over 700 places to eat and drink in the Myrtle Beach Area, but for true local cred, try out Peach's Corner. They have been serving up hot dogs and hamburgers since 1937. If you want something a little fancier, not to worry, there are plenty of four star restaurants here as well.

Aspen Grille is not only local, but delightfully upscale, sophisticated and fresh. An emphasis on local sourcing informs a menu bursting with home-grown inspiration like pan roasted chicken breast from Springer Mountain Farms in Ary, GA served with delightful goat cheese from Worley Lane in Nichols, SC. The chef even personally selected every item on the impressive wine list.

If you are into beer, New South Brewing is a full-fledged brewery and has tours and tastings available. If you are looking for a brewpub, head over to Liberty Brewery and Grill and grab a Patriot Porter, a pint of bacon (yes, you read that right) and a batch of soft pretzels for heaven in a meal.

Entertainment

Myrtle Beach does vacation right, and when it comes to entertainment there are plenty of opportunities to take in a show. If you are looking for Broadway-quality theater head to the Palace Theater, or take the whole gang out to one of two dinner theaters: Pirates Voyage and Medieval Times. You can take in a Pelican's Single-A baseball game at ticketreturn.com field. If you need a laugh, there is the Carolina Improv theater, The Carolina Comedy Club, and the Comedy Cabana.

Amusements / Attractions

If you have the kids along for the ride or you are just a kid at heart, there are dozens of places to wear that child out. Family Kingdom amusement park has more than 35 thrill rides into a sprawling park right on the water. And speaking of water, you can shoot the curl at the attached Splashes Water Park.

Ripley's Believe it or Not, Haunted Adventure and Aquarium, Backstage Mirror Maze, Wonderworks, and the Hollywood Wax Museum are all good on a rainy day.

For a more low-key family outing, Myrtle Beach has a score of wonderful museums and historical attractions, like the South Carolina Civil War Museum or the circa-1760 Kaminski House Museum.

Lodging

If you want a room on the beach, this is the place to do it. Myrtle Beach offers up almost 500 rooms with a beach view and there are over 200 hotels to choose from. If you are looking at vacation rentals you have an even larger pool to pull from.

Almost every timeshare company and vacation club has properties in Myrtle Beach, so you should have absolutely no problem using your week(s) up in the area, too. There are also many pet-friendly accommodations.

So even if you have to leave the clubs at home, there is still so much more to see and do in Myrtle Beach. And if the clubs do happen to make the trip with you, just know that your day won't end once 18 holes do.
