DEI Advisors, the non-profit organization dedicated to
empowering personal success among women and other under-represented groups,
recently interviewed Northstar Travel Group President and Chief Commercial
Officer Bob Sullivan.
Sullivan spoke at length with DEI Advisors Principal Dorothy
Dowling about a multitude of topics, highlighting Northstar’s strong work in
the fields of diversity, equity and inclusion, as well as the company’s growth
and career philosophies.
The Northstar president was asked about best practices when acquiring
and retaining talented employees, with Sullivan revealing that cohesive collaboration,
learning from colleagues and diverse viewpoints were cornerstones of the company’s
philosophy.
“You want great talent,” Sullivan said. “Any organization that’s
looking to be high performing, you’re looking for diverse talent that will push
you and lead you to new levels that maybe you weren’t even looking at.”
Sullivan also expressed the importance of creating a
destination career workplace, using growth opportunities and management
guidance to help the most talented people want to stay employed with Northstar
for a long time.
When Dowling asked how to make strategic investments
successful, the chief commercial officer expressed the importance of remaining
agile, being a great listener and nurturing ideas when developing an
integration plan that benefits all brands.
In addition, Sullivan looked to Northstar’s future under new
leadership and a fresh approach.
“I’m working with a new CEO, Jason Young, who joined us in January,”
Sullivan continued. “Jason has brought a whole new lens to our business. He
came from a very different background in media.”
While Sullivan’s advice will be crucial to the success of under-represented
groups represented by DEI Advisors, everyone in the travel industry shares responsibility
when promoting diversity, equity and inclusion.
