More details are emerging about the rebranding of The Mirage in Las Vegas into a Hard Rock International property.
The County Commissioner did approve the design plans for the refurbished hotels, and they do include a pair of guitar-shaped structures.
The plans also call for an addition of 1.2 million square feet of space in the facility for another theater, an extra ballroom and retail outlets.
Hard Rock will also expand the pool since pools are an important revenue generator in Las Vegas.
The Mirage has been home to many famous concerts and boxing matches with its 20,000-seat stadium and it famously greets visitors with a volcano out front. The volcano will no longer be a landmark on the Strip as it will be replaced when the guitar-shaped structures are built.
Plans also call for the expansion of the casino, several new restaurants and a new day club, among other things.
The city is so anxious to see the rebranding that it approved the design plans without discussion at a meeting last month. The Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat – famous from the Siegfried and Roy days of the hotel – will also be removed.
It is unknown when construction will begin. Officials did previously say that the casino will almost double in size through the expansion.
Hard Rock International acquired The Mirage almost a year ago.
