There has been tremendous growth in the luxury family travel market over the past several years.

"Generally speaking, parents are having children later in life, and by the time they do have kids they are a little more affluent than their own parents," said Carmen Sognonvi, founder and publisher of the online resource Top Flight Family, in an interview with Vacation Agent magazine, a travAlliancemedia sister publication.

"They don't want to compromise their lifestyle."

There's no better place to do that than Fiji.

Fiji's Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort is just one of many options for families these days. Its new children's program stands out with environmental stewardship, a passion for marine life and dedication to Fijian culture.

"A fantastic family vacation is the cornerstone for a lifetime of amazing memories," said Bart Simpson, general manager of Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort, Fiji.

"With the new School Under the Sea program, we hope to make holiday decision-making easy for families by providing them with new and exciting programs while at the same time offering them luxury accommodations, world-class dining, and an unforgettable personal experience that is derived from the natural beauty of the island, and the warmth of the staff," Simpson added.

A wide range of activities are offered each day to broaden the horizons of young guests, including coral planting; snorkeling; mangrove adventures; rainforest and waterfall excursions; a visit to a local Fijian school; arts and crafts; a treasure hunt; educational presentations; movies, and more.

Activities are complimentary for all kids aged 6 to 12 staying at the resort and is designed to help kids get a better understanding of the natural world and how they can help protect it.

An added bonus is that parents are free to enjoy themselves while their children go in search of educational pursuits.

The school operates daily with morning, afternoon and evening sessions.

In addition to the learning opportunities provided at School Under the Sea, there is the Bula Club for Kids, open from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. each day. Children ages 6 to 12 can also choose to be paired with a Fijian buddy for the day, and nanny services are also available to parents at the resort.
