Walking tours are a good way to get to know a city but to really get a different perspective of what a city has to offer, you want to go somewhere or do something off the beaten path. This is also a really good way to blow up your Instagram feed with a bunch of images that are going to have your friends drooling with travel envy - if that's what you're into, anyway.
The Guardian has several suggestions for where to have a more local experience in several major metropolises around the world, so whether you have been there a dozen times or never, you can get to know each one in a different way.
For example, fans of Stieg Larson's Millennium Trilogy - you know the one, "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo - will be happy to stroll through the streets of Stockholm on the Millennium Tour. It's not a literary tour so to speak. Instead, you follow in the footsteps of the main characters, making your way through the city.
You can also follow in the footsteps of the Iceland financial crash. It's one of the most dramatic events in Iceland's history, says the Guardian and the third largest bankruptcy in the world. The tour explains the role the crash played in Iceland's history and the causes as well as what happened to those responsible.
In Warsaw, you can really fuel Instagram wanderlust with the PolaWalks tour. The three-hour walking tour through the city is done with Polaroid cameras (one for each guest, including film) and guides point out some of the coolest photo stops along the way. It's also offered in Vienna and Graz.
