EF Go Ahead Tours is launching a new America 250-inspired tour led by a professional historian, following research showing that the most active travelers in the U.S. have never visited destinations connected to the nation's founding.
The survey found that New York City was the most-visited historical city in the United States, with 70% of active American travelers having visited the Big Apple. Yet only 51% of travelers have visited Boston, and 49% have visited Philadelphia, two key players during the American Revolution.
The numbers get even smaller for Lexington and Concord, Princeton, Washington Crossing, Pennsylvania, Valley Forge and Yorktown.
That's why the new America 250: The Revolution from Boston to Yorktown itinerary, featuring historian Dr. Iris de Rode, is such a great opportunity for history-minded travelers. It's an 11-day special departure tour debuting July 4, 2027, tracing America's founding history.
"Walking these sites with travelers is a privilege. The ground at Valley Forge, at the Brandywine, at Yorktown — it still holds the weight of what happened there," said Dr. Iris de Rode. "I look forward to helping travelers feel that weight, and to understand that the independence America celebrates today was won through sacrifice, strategy, and an unlikely friendship between two nations."
Travelers will start in Boston and walk the city's Freedom Trail, visiting Bunker Hill, Minuteman National Historic Park and a special 4th of July fireworks show.
Then, they'll visit New York City and Long Island, complete with a Broadway performance of Hamilton, before moving on to Philadelphia. There, travelers will encounter the birthplace of the Declaration of Independence, visiting Independence Hall, Valley Forge National Historic Park and the Brandywine Battlefield.
A one-day visit to Washington, D.C. will take travelers to all the capital monuments, including George Washington's Mount Vernon, before visiting Yorktown, where the American Revolution was won.
All along the way, historian and author Dr. Iris de Rode will provide expert insight and guidance on the nuances and history of the Revolutionary period. De Rode is one of the foremost scholars of the French-American alliance during the Revolutionary War, and has received several accolades for her scholarship.
