Copenhagen is the type of destination that truly stands out from the pack.

The capital of Denmark has an amazing pedigree of cultural and historical significance. It also has geography on its side-it is perched on coastal islands that sets the scene for amazing views and natural backdrops.

TravelBound knows. The company's inventory for travel agents is unprecedented, and it can help coordinate your trip to virtually any destination in the world.

But start with Copenhagen.

Somehow managing to be both hip and trendy while also remaining nostalgic and traditional, Copenhagen has something for everyone. Among the most popular attractions for visitors of all ages is Tivoli Gardens. This amusement park is more than 100 years old but has stood the test of time. Its oldest ride is the wooden roller coaster, but it also has new and modern rides and attractions.

One of the city's most famous landmarks is located at Langelinje Pier. The statue of The Little Mermaid was crafted of bronze and granite, and was inspired by the beloved story of the same name.

Don't miss the chance to check out the most visited Danish castle, Kronborg Castle. While it was the home of royal families for centuries, it has also served as a military fortress. Visitors love exploring the castle's architecture-such as the grand ballroom-while also getting a close-up look at the artwork and décor among which the royals lived.

Those with Bohemian tastes will probably be drawn to Christiania, also known as Freetown Christiania, a neighborhood of town that has a distinct hippie vibe. The car-free community puts an emphasis on green living, and residents prefer to live off the grid-or as close to that as possible. Established in 1971 when a group of "hippies" began living in some abandoned military barracks, the area now consists of art galleries, workshops, eateries and music venues-all nestled within the beauty of Mother Nature.

You will also want to spend time strolling along Strøget, one of the longest shopping streets in Europe. No cars are allowed, but it's a great place for pedestrians to explore the town while also stopping to browse at one of the many shops and boutiques that line the route. No matter what you are looking to buy-or how much you want to spend-you will be sure to find the perfect thing here.

Amalienborg Palace will appeal to history lovers and royalty buffs alike. Famous for its royal guard, known as Den Kongelige Livgarde-you can watch the changing of the guard every day at noon-this palace still serves as the home of Denmark's royal family. The palace actually consists of four buildings that surround the palace square. One of the buildings contains Amalienborg Museum, where you can see fascinating exhibits related to the current and previous monarchies.

One of the best things about Copenhagen is the fact that it is a very walkable destination, and you can see many of the locations on your agenda by strolling around town on foot.
