Inkaterra, the Peruvian leader in sustainable tourism and hotel development, has introduced three new conservation-focused travel itineraries for guests staying in the Inkaterra Guides Field Station.
Located near the Tambopata National Reserve in the Madre de Dios region of Peru, the property, which recently opened to the public, offers travelers the opportunity to explore the reserve's tropical rainforest and participate in various conservation projects. The activities are overseen by Inkaterra's NGO, the Inkaterra Asociación (ITA), a self-funded, non-profit institution dedicated to restoring Peru's ecosystems and cultural resources.
Each two-, three- and four-night package offers full immersion into Inkaterra's extensive wildlife reserves. They also all include guided travel through the Inkaterra Ecological Reserve's rainforest trails, which are home to 540 bird species, 362 ant species and more than 100 mammal species.
Based on the itinerary, other activities include excursions to the guest-favorite Inkaterra Canopy Walkway, a collection of eight platforms and seven suspended bridges 100 feet above the jungle floor; canoe rides; nighttime tours of the rainforest; visits to the Inkaterra Asociación's bio-orchard; learning about bird monitoring, rainforest restoration and conservation and more.
Originally designed as a research location for ITA and a training camp for Inkaterra's Explorer Guides, the field station is equipped with four cabañas, featuring two bedrooms, a terrace, mosquito nets and private bathrooms. There are also two large pavilions, each with four shared rooms, sleeping up to four guests per room and private bathrooms.
For the Pavilion, rates begin at $160 per person for the two-night itinerary, $240 per person for the three-night package and $320 per person for the four-night itinerary. Rates also include round-trip transportation from the airport, full board, programmed excursions in either Spanish or English and access to the Inkaterra Canopy Walkway. Rates do not include alcohol, additional expenses, a 10 percent service charge and the entrance fees to Lake Sandoval.
