Intrepid Travel is launching its annual bicycle fundraiser event, The Buffalo Ride, on May 3 to raise funds for World Bicycle Relief, a global cycling initiative that provides bikes to women and girls in rural areas.
The Buffalo Ride hopes to raise $120,000 for the initiative, encouraging businesses, teams and individual bicyclists to raise money throughout the month of May. Every $180 raised purchases one bike for people living in rural areas across the globe, connecting children to faraway schools and women to access healthcare and work opportunities.
“The Buffalo Ride is proof that our industry can do more than show people the world, we can also change it,” said Leigh Barnes, president of the Americas at Intrepid Travel and chair of the board for The Intrepid Foundation, U.S. “This month we’re calling on travel businesses and individuals everywhere to get involved. And this year, with our new 501c3 status in the U.S., it’s never been easier for American donors to make their gift go further.”
How do people get involved?
A North American community ride will be held along the Marin Goodman Trail in Toronto, Canada, on April 30, where Intrepid Canada team members will ride to reach their CA$3,000 goal.
Riders can also choose to bike anywhere, alone or in a group. To register or donate funds towards World Bicycle Relief, head to The Buffalo Ride’s official website.
