ALG Vacations (ALGV) announced a $100,000 donation to the Hawaii Community Foundation’s Maui Strong Fund, providing financial resources to support the recovery needs for the people and places affected by the devastating Maui wildfires.
“In Hawaiian, mālama means ‘to care.' At ALG Vacations, our mission is to care for people so they can be their best, and right now, Maui needs our care,” said Ray Snisky, ALG Vacations’ president. “We are pleased to make this contribution to support Maui and help its residents recover.”
In addition to their donation, ALGV will educate travel advisors through webinars and social media to help them understand what parts of Maui are open to visitors and what vacationers can expect while visiting. The mission places added emphasis on asking advisors for their help in showing all the Hawaiian Islands mālama—care and protection—by cultivating respectful travel.
“After spending a week in Maui at the beginning of September, I felt the island’s ho’omau, or perseverance, firsthand,” said Jacki Marks, Global Head of Trade Brands for ALGV. “While Lahaina and other areas in West Maui are off-limits for now, you can still experience the island’s unfailing spirit of aloha. Vacations originating in South Maui, Hana, and Paia are vital contributors to Maui’s economy, and are essential to helping its communities recover.”
Hawaiian officials anticipate welcoming back visitors to West Maui, including Kā’anapali Beach, beginning Oct. 8.
Internally, ALG Vacations colleagues donated to a fund that supported team members directly affected by the wildfires. That fund was matched by parent company Hyatt.
