Flight Centre Travel Group (FLT) announced that Gogo Vacations is closing its doors after more than 70 years of providing travel to its customers. The company noted that the wholesale model has struggled in recent years and that it is ceasing to accept reservations immediately.
“It was a difficult, but logical decision to close GOGO. With the wholesale model struggling in recent years, it has become increasingly difficult to justify the high costs of maintaining this brand,” said Flight Centre Travel Group Americas President Charlene Leiss. “With that said, a transition team will remain in the business to service the existing GOGO bookings and support our customers throughout this period with the complete backing of Flight Centre Travel Group.”In a statement, Susan Ogden, Executive Vice President of Gogo Vacations wrote: "GOGO Vacations’ unwavering commitment for 73 years has been to the travel advisor community. We continue that commitment today by providing you the peace of mind in knowing that all of your existing bookings are secure and will continue to be managed by a dedicated and professional team of wholesale consultants and support personnel. We are fortunate to have the strong financial backing of Flight Centre Travel Group, and you can rest assured that your existing bookings and commissions are secure. GOGO’s doors will not close until your last customer has returned home, and your commissions have been paid."Travel advisors can still log in to their Helio accounts to maintain current bookings and the online support team remains intact to help via chat, email or phone and can assist with booking modifications, schedule changes and general support. The groups team is also on hand to support existing reservations and advisors can use their Softrip login to maintain bookings or speak with our groups team directly via phone or email.
At the same time that FLT announced it was shuttering Gogo Vacations, the company announced outlined its overall plans for the future. The company's new plans are "geared towards capitalizing on the strong leisure and corporate growth opportunities in the large U.S. market. It is focusing on new endeavors like Envoyage and its corporate travel business.
