Why You Should Visit Denali National Park

Denali National Park and Preserve boasts a towering status among America’s public lands for good reason.
The park’s six million acres are home to abundant wildlife and jaw-dropping landscapes but also the tallest mountain in North America: Denali. It draws visitors in and offers a lot of activities once they get inside the park’s boundaries.
During the summer with the Denali Star Train, the Alaska Railroad provides daily summer service to Denali National Park and Preserve from Anchorage and Fairbanks. Along the journey, passengers are treated to mile after mile of untouched wilderness that is home to many of the state’s most iconic residents.
Passengers often spot moose, eagles and even bears on the ride to the park. To get an even better wildlife-viewing experience, consider upgrading to GoldStar Service, which includes glass-dome ceilings and the world’s only second-story outdoor viewing platform.
Once the train pulls into the depot, located right at park headquarters, a day of adventure awaits. Many people choose to switch from the rails to the road with a classic Tundra Wilderness Tour on the park road.
One option outside of the park, Denali Park Zipline Adventure, has riders traverse six sky bridges and seven zip lines through boreal forest. This experience is for the more adventurous traveler who wants to feel a bit of a rush as they zip through Alaska wilderness from high above the trees.

For something closer to the ground, consider a stop at Husky Homestead.
This is the home of four-time Iditarod champion Jeff King, but more importantly his pups-in-training. Husky Homestead serves as an educational and adventure spot for visitors who want to immerse themselves in dog sledding during the summer.
Whether coming with a large family for a reunion or a large corporate group, the Alaska Railroad can accommodate many kinds of groups that are up for an Alaska adventure. To make sure everyone stays together, select the option to block seats when making reservations. This option works best for 15 or more people.
