Like any city and tourist destination, Acapulco is much more than just its fabulous beaches, restaurants and nightclub scene.

Oh no, the destination is filled with cultural landmarks that are a must for any visit to Acapulco.

Here are three you really should try to hit between heading to the beach and the clubs.

SINFONIA DEL MAR. Literally translated as the Symphony of the Sea, it is a wondrous performance venue with, arguably, one of the most incredible backdrops in the world - the Pacific Ocean. The Sinfonia is outdoor amphitheatre in the city's Calle de la Quebrada area. The Sinfonia theatre doesn't have as many performances as it once did, but it still hosts a series of seasonal events and theatrical performances.

If any are in season when you visit, we urge you to score tickets to the event for what is arguably one of the most incredible outdoor shows you will see set against the deep blue waters of the ocean in the background. Even if there isn't a performance scheduled during your time in Acapulco, it's worth a visit just to see it since the Sinfonia is open daily.

EL ZOCALO. Mexico is famous for its traditional public squares, or city centers, and Acapulco is no different. Although you might visit Acapulco to say on its glorious beaches and be able to walk out the hotel door to feel the sand on your toes, a trip to El Zocalo is worth it. There is a bandstand in which live music and dancing is prevalent, numerous shops, restaurants, bistros and bars - and tons of trees for shade while you walk in the warm sun.

CATHEDRAL. The Cathedral of Acapulco is a visually stunning and humbling church, known among city's community as the Nuestra Senora de la Soledad, or Our Lady of Solitude. And if you're already downtown walking around El Zocalo, you can't miss it with its white facade. It is arguably the city's most famous landmark. It turned 86 years old this year and features numerous religious artifacts inside.
