National Park Week is returning April 20-28 and travelers would be wise to get outside and take advantage.
After all, the festivities kick off with waived entrance fees on Saturday, April 20, allowing free access to hundreds of national parks across the U.S. right as the temperatures are rising and the days are getting longer.
Entrance fees are only waived six days a year and the next one isn't until June 19 for Juneteenth National Independence Day.
But that's only the beginning.
Sunday, April 21 will feature numerous opportunities to volunteer and Monday, April 22 is Earth Day, a global holiday encouraging education and stewardship of the planet's natural resources. America's national parks will celebrate Earth Day with special volunteer opportunities and other events.
Tuesday, April 23 will showcase the various innovative projects and programs at national parks across the country and Wednesday, April 24 will present the chance to meet the National Park Service's passionate workforce of employees, interns, fellows, volunteers, contractors and partners.
Traveling families certainly won't want to miss the NPS youth engagement efforts taking place on Thursday, April 25. In the age of social media and phone culture, there are tremendous benefits to getting kids to turn their attention away from the screen. The little ones will equally enjoy Junior Ranger Day on Saturday, April 27, during which children ages five to 13 can even earn a badge.
National Park Week concludes with Arts in Parks on Sunday, April 28, when visitors can create their own masterpieces and celebrate the works of others.
Quite frankly, there's never a bad time to visit a national park.
Whether you've never been or visit every other weekend, National Park Week is the perfect time to get outside and experience the country's natural wonders.
