National parks are some of the most awe-inspiring and beautiful natural landscapes that the United States has to offer. They offer visitors the opportunity to explore the stunning scenery, observe fascinating wildlife, and participate in a variety of outdoor activities.

From the soaring peaks of the Rocky Mountains to the rugged coastline of Acadia, national parks offer visitors a chance to immerse themselves in some of the most spectacular landscapes in the world. These landscapes provide endless opportunities for photography, hiking, and other outdoor activities. For those looking to visit one of these iconic parks, there are some ways to bypass the traditional fees:

Free Park Days

The National Park Service designates several days each year as free National Park days, which means that entrance to all national parks that usually charge fees is completely free. These free days are a great opportunity for families and individuals to explore the parks, take in the stunning scenery, and learn about the history and natural wonders of these incredible places.

In 2023, there are five free National Park days:

  • January 16: Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr.
  • April 22: First day of National Park Week
  • August 4: Anniversary of the Great American Outdoors Act
  • September 23: National Public Lands Day
  • November 11: Veterans Day

During these free National Park days, visitors can explore the parks without having to pay the usual entrance fees. This can be significant cost savings for families and individuals who want to explore the parks but may be on a tight budget. Visitors can hike through stunning landscapes, see amazing wildlife, and take part in ranger-led activities and educational programs.

While entrance fees are waived on free National Park days, other fees such as camping fees, reservation fees, and tour fees may still apply. Visitors should check with individual parks to determine what other fees may be required for their visit.
