A Thai AirAsia flight departing from Bangkok was forced to return to the gate late Thursday after a passenger threw hot water at a flight attendant.
According to CNN's Steven Jiang, the incident occurred on flight FD9101 last Thursday evening when a male passenger became upset after learning that he would have to wait for the plane to reach a cruising altitude before the flight attendant could bring him boiling water for his girlfriend's instant noodles.
Witnesses onboard said the man threw a fit and began yelling.
The quarrel continued as the flight attendant brought the hot water and charged the man for it. That's when witnesses said the man's girlfriend threw the hot water on the flight attendant's back.
But that wasn't the end of the disturbance.
In the below video, which was captured on a passenger's cell phone, a man is heard shouting the following in Mandarin: "You don't think I have money?...You caused all the problems and I'm going to blow up the plane!"
In a statement, the airline explained the pilot's course of action:
"The captain of the flight decided to return the plane to Don Mueang Airport deeming her actions as endangering to other passengers and impeding in-flight service."
The plane, which was carrying 174 passengers and six crew members was bound for the Chinese city of Nanjing, but hadn't even left Thai airspace before returning to the capital.
The couple who sparked the incident and two of their friends who were also involved have been fined for their actions.
