American Airlines is revamping its premium travel offerings, launching the first international flights on its retrofitted Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, which has the most premium seating options of any U.S. carrier.
The airline has 20 of the newly designed aircraft, flying long-haul routes from the U.S. to London, Tokyo, Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires and Sydney. The first flight took off on Wednesday, September 2 from New York’s JFK to Buenos Aires.
The aircraft boasts 144 premium seats, including 70 Flagship Suite seats, which replace Flagship First on this type of airplane. Flagship Suite seats offer privacy doors, lie-flat seats and more storage space. Travelers who choose this luxurious option will also enjoy priority check-in, security and boarding, access to the Flagship lounge where available, and Flagship Dining.
“Our Flagship aircraft represents the next evolution of premium travel at American,” said American’s Chief Commercial Officer Nat Pieper. “With elegantly designed interiors and spacious premium seating, the Boeing 777-300ER reflects our continued commitment to creating a travel experience around what customers value most.”
The aircraft also has 44 Premium Economy seats, with calf and foot rests, and 30 seats offering added legroom in Main Cabin Extra.
Flagship First will be phased out as a seating option for flights operating with the Boeing 777-300ER beginning November 19, 2026. By March 28, 2027, this seating category will be phased out entirely for transcontinental routes.
