American Airlines is kicking off 2024 with enhancements to its AAdvantage frequent flyer program.

The newly revealed changes include allowing members to earn miles when they pay with cash to upgrade to a premium cabin, adding a new Loyalty Point Reward level and new opportunities to enhance travel experiences with AAdvantage miles.

Here’s a closer look at some of the latest developments and what rewards members can expect in the upcoming AAdvantage program year, which starts March 1, 2024, and wraps up on February 28, 2025.

New Loyalty Points Reward Level

American Airlines announced on Tuesday that it will add a new Loyalty Point Reward level at 15,000 points.

The new reward level includes benefits and options such as priority boarding privileges, five preferred seat coupons or Group 5 boarding for the membership year. Members are able to select one of these benefits once they reach 15,000 points.

New Experiences

The upcoming program year will also include new Enhance with Miles opportunities. For instance, once members reach AAdvantage Platinum Pro status, they’ll be able to redeem miles for Flagship First dining passes.

Flagship First dining experiences are located at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), Miami International Airport (MIA) and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

Customers will also be able to redeem miles for upgrades with select American Airlines partners.

As 2024 progresses, American Airlines plans to add still more exclusive benefits for members. This includes such perks as:

  • Same-day standby: AAdvantage members will soon be able to access standby for an earlier domestic flight free of charge.
  • Extended Trip Credit: As part of this benefit, members will be given six more months to use Trip Credit than non-members when canceling travel online.
  • Admirals Club One-Day Passes: Members will be allowed to purchase one-day passes to visit the American Airlines Admirals Club lounges.
  • Flagship Lounge Single Visit Passes: This new program addition provides AAdvantage members with the opportunity to purchase a pass for Flagship lounge access.
  • 24-hour trip hold: Need time to decide before booking? Members will be able to put flights on hold free of charge for up to 24 hours.

In addition, beginning later in January, AAdvantage members will be able to cancel non-refundable Basic Economy tickets and receive a partial trip credit for a fee.
