Travelers are just months away from gaining access to a unique air travel experience.

With customers being able to book flights aboard the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner as soon as this weekend, American Airlines has announced the first routes for the new jetliner.

In a press release on Wednesday, American revealed that the 787 will initially be deployed between Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and Chicago O'Hare International Airport starting on May 7, 2015.

American plans to launch international service between Dallas/Fort Worth and Beijing Capital International Airport in China beginning on June 2, 2015. On June 4, 2015, the new airliner will begin operating between Dallas/Fort Worth and Buenos Aires' Ministro Pistarini International Airport.

"We look forward to welcoming our international customers onboard the 787 with its modern amenities and comforts beginning this summer," said American's chief marketing officer Andrew Nocella in a statement. "Adding the 787 Dreamliner to our network gives us the opportunity to increase our efficiency on long-haul flights across the globe and potentially open up new markets in our network. It's a big win for customers and just the latest example of how American is going for great."

While improved aerodynamics, engine technology, better fuel efficiency and lower operating costs are all good for the airline, it's the modern onboard experience that's sure to entice travelers.

The 787-8 Dreamliner features a two-class cabin configuration.

Business Class passengers will enjoy more than two dozen fully lie-flat seats arranged in a 1-2-1 configuration, satellite Wi-Fi capability, a 15.4-inch high-definition Panasonic touchscreen monitor for at each seat and Bose's QuietComfort acoustic noise cancelling headphones and ear buds as well as universal AC power outlets and USB port.

Meanwhile, the Main Cabin seats will be arranged in a 3-3-3 configuration, with 48 Main Cabin Extra seats and 150 standard Main Cabin seats available. The Main Cabin Extra seats will offer passengers up to an additional six inches of legroom.

Main Cabin seats will feature universal AC power outlets and a USB jack in addition to a nine-inch HD Panasonic touchscreen monitor for entertainment.

Larger windows, better cabin humidity and improved sound quality are other notable advanced features passengers onboard the new 787 Dreamliner will notice.

Currently, American has placed orders for 42 of the new Boeing 787 aircraft. However, the airline has the right to acquire an additional 58 in the future.
