“Fire” is certainly not a phrase anyone wants to hear while high up in the sky onboard an airplane
But that’s what happened to an American Airlines flight at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport on Thursday.
The incident happened on the runway, and the plane had to return to the terminal. Fortunately, nobody was hurt. The equipment was an Airbus A-321.
“Everyone was trying to panic but we couldn’t go anywhere. That was the biggest scare,” passenger Claire Dundon said.
American said in a statement: “Flight 2288 to Dallas-Fort Worth reported a mechanical issue and safely taxied back to the gate under its own power.”
That particular plane was taken out of service, and passengers were taken on to Dallas on a different flight. The cause of the fire was not known as of early Saturday morning.
Video of the fire can be seen here via WSOC TV.
