American travelers will have more options to visit Australia this winter, thanks to an expanded flight schedule from American Airlines and Qantas.

The two partner carriers are adding new flight frequencies from the United States to the Australian cities of Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne.

First, American will launch a new route from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Brisbane (BNE). The new service will operate three flights a week starting December 5, 2025, through the end of January 2026, and tickets go on sale May 12.

The flights are meant to complement similar offerings from Qantas. In fact, together, the two airlines, which share a joint business agreement, will operate up to seven daily flights between Brisbane and LAX this winter. All LAX-BNE flights on both carriers will be operated by Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners.

Winter in the United States is prime time to visit Brisbane, which at that time experiences its summer season. The capital of Queensland in northeast Australia, Brisbane is known for its beautiful beaches and surfing along the Gold Coast and is also relatively close to the state's natural wonders, like the Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree Rainforest.

For its part, Qantas will boost service on its route between Dallas (DFW) and Melbourne (MEL) to have a daily flight from December 3, 2025, through the end of January 2026.

On October 25, American is also bringing back its seasonal route between DFW and Brisbane, which launched last year. Even more exciting: the carrier will use one of its 787-9 Dreamliners outfitted with its brand new Flagship Suites business class cabin that features sliding privacy doors. Those seats are now open for booking.

“American is proud to partner with Qantas to increase travel options for customers to Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne this winter,” said Steve Johnson, American’s vice chair and chief strategy officer. “Together, we offer the most comprehensive service connecting the United States with Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific. For our customers, this means more ways to plan vacations to visit friends and family or jet off for a new adventure in one of the most picturesque regions of the world.”

Dallas passengers will be treated to another exciting aircraft bound for Australia next year as well: starting in January 2026, Qantas will use its double-decker Airbus A380 planes to operate all daily services between DFW and Sydney.
