Miami's Art Basel is designed to showcase not only significant works from the masters of modern and contemporary art but also the new generation of emerging artists.
It's a fact not lost on up-and-coming artist Qinmin Liu, who recently announced her own unique way of making a splash in conjunction with the famous art-world event.
Liu has launched the first-ever artist airline, which will kick off by shuttling a handful of passengers from New York City to the Miami art gathering on a nine-seat private jet.
While en route, Liu will provide the in-flight service, which will be a work of her own performance art.
"The service will become performance," explained Liu during an interview with TravelPulse. "So people will experience the environment I create. It will be an immersive art experience on board and I will be the flight attendant."
Think of it as part art project and part business venture from the 27-year-old China native. An art student who studied in San Francisco and recently completed her MFA in New York, Liu's specialties include performance art, choreography, photography and video installations.
Liu's goal is to exclusively offer flights to art events around the world. She has given the airline the tongue in cheek name Angelhaha Airline.
Tickets for the maiden flight to Miami on December 6 can be booked via Liu's website and will range from $2,800 to $3,500 per seat. Future flights will run from New York to San Franciso; Beijing to New York and Shanghai to New York, to name a few.
As for what exactly passengers can expect for the ticket price, Liu was tight-lipped. She said the environment she is creating on the plane will remain a secret.

"I'm the Angelhaha and this is my art project, creating an entire airline," she offered. "I'm using this platform to speak about our contemporary reality of time and space."
Her website adds this description: "Angelhaha will do everything to provide the happiest moment and environment to human beings."
A refreshing message from an airline, no?
