Air traffic controllers at Athens International Airport in Greece have staged a ‘slow down.’ That is, they are purposely slowing down their work based and causing flight delays.
In some instances, the delays are 15 minutes. In other cases, they are lasting up to two hours.
The protest action has lasted several days and it is not known how much longer it will go on. As expected, passengers are not happy. Athens is the largest airport in Greece. Some passengers were informed of the delays, and others were not.
“My flight is 25 minutes late. I hope it won’t be any longer,” one man said.
Said another passenger: “I’ve been here for an hour. The flight was supposed to leave in about half an hour and no one has yet informed us of when boarding will begin. This is unacceptable.”
The Greek Air Traffic Controllers’ Association told a Greek newspaper they are “operating at their official capacity.”
Like many European destinations, Greece is also battling overtourism.
