There's coincidence and there's destiny.
Erkan Geldi's story appears to be an example of the latter.
That's because the Turkish Airlines flight attendant has come full circle after being born aboard a Turkish Airlines flight more than two decades ago. Geldi's extraordinary birth culminated with his mother naming him after the pilot of the 1990 Istanbul-Frankfurt flight.
"There have been two other births aboard a Turkish Airlines plane in the past few decades, but I think I am the only one that was actually born in the air," Geldi said in an interview with USA Today's Road Warrior Voices.
"My father worked in Germany, and we took a plane twice a year to visit. I wondered every time I saw a plane what it must be like to work there," Geldi told Road Warrior Voices. "Maybe its because of my birth, maybe not. But it's clear that I love planes."
Geldi said that he started working as a flight attendant for the airline as recently as last year.
"During the interview process, they asked me why I picked this occupation," said Geldi. "I replied that actually the occupation chose me."
So far, Geldi said he loves his job and remains bullish on the prospects that a baby will be born on one of his future flights.
"Maybe one day a baby will be born on one of my planes...I will be ready if needed though, as we are trained for a lot of different emergency situations on board," he told Road Warrior Voices.
If that were to happen, it would undoubtedly be fate.
