There’s no doubt it’s been a hellish season for the Boeing Company. A door plug that fell off an Alaska Airlines flight in early January triggered an investigation that resulted in financial disaster. That also includes a strike by 33,000 machinists over the summer. But the company has been resilient and optimistic. It now has a bullish outlook on 2025.Part of the reasoning is based on a significant order from a supplier; the order shows that the supplier still has a great deal of faith that Boeing can resume its position atop manufacturers. A shot in the arm from a skeptical aviation community is exactly what Boeing needs. It is essentially a vote of confidence. That’s something that Boeing needs right now – validation. The order for 100 Boeing 737 MAX airplanes came from Pegasus Airlines. There is an option for 100 more. The hope is that the plane brings Boeing back to be competitive with its chief rival, Airbus, in the competitive narrow-body market.Boeing still has a backlog of nearly 6,300 planes to manufacture and deliver. Again, this one order shows an investment is being made in the company and the aviation community is starting to rally back.Production rates and delivery rates have slowed down. This deal with Pegasus will help allay some of those concerns.New CEO Kelly Ortberg said: “Boeing is an airplane company, and at the right time in the future, we need to develop a new airplane. But we have a lot of work to do before then."The company had a disastrous third quarter.
