An American Airlines plane that landed in Miami was reportedly found to have bullet holes on its exterior, leading authorities to launch an investigation.
The plane departed Medellín, Colombian, where local officials believe the plane was struck by bullets during its landing on Sunday, according to ABC News.
Upon the plane’s return to Miami, the airline’s maintenance teams “identified a puncture” on the aircraft exterior during a routine inspection, American Airlines told ABC News.
“The aircraft was immediately removed from service for further inspection and repair. We will work closely with all relevant authorities to investigate this incident,” the airline’s statement continued.
The Boeing 737 Max 8 plane landed safely at Miami International Airport (MIA) on Monday, according to data from FlightRadar24. There were no injuries reported on the flight.
ABC News reports that Colombian authorities believe a local criminal group is likely behind the incident, but no arrests have been made so far.
