WHY IT RATES: A gallery in one of America's iconic museums is undergoing an exciting transformation thanks to generous funding from Delta and other airlines. -Mia Taylor, TravelPulse Senior Writer.
As a part of Delta's ongoing efforts to advance aviation education and support communities across the country, The Delta Air Lines Foundations granted $6.67 million to help transform the flagship building of the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum.
Alongside eight other airlines, this funding will enable the complete redesign of the "America by Air" gallery, which will be completed and reopened for the public's enjoyment and education in 2021.
The newly renovated gallery will also include, for the first time, the Huff-Daland Duster, donated by Delta and currently on display at the museum's Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, Virginia.
"Like the Huff-Daland Duster, the 'America by Air' gallery is an important part of our history, and we are honored to play a part in its enhancement," said Ed Bastian, Delta's CEO. "Giving back in communities where we live, work and serve is core to Delta's culture. We hope the newly redesigned gallery will inspire visitors and light a spark in the next generation of aviation professionals."
Delta is committed to being a strong partner with communities, contributing one percent of its net income to charitable organizations each year.
