Travelers seeking some short term shuteye in Helsinki Airport can abandon awkward slouching and hard concrete floors. Finland's largest airport is the first in Europe to install GOSleep sleeping pods, Yahoo! reported.
The pods, created in Finland, are easy chair-like seats that can be converted to beds. Luggage is stashed under the pod, and a cover can be pulled over to block out light and noise. To up the comfort quotient, pillows and blankets are available. Outlets are also available to charge laptops and phones while catching z's.
"We wish to provide passengers with an opportunity for stress-free travel and a nap between flights. Helsinki Airport has many transit passengers, who may not have had any sleep for a day or are suffering from jet lag. I believe that the service will have genuine demand," said Heikki Koski, vice president of Finavia, operator of Finland's airports and air navigation systems, at Helsinki airport.
Gates 18 and 38 at the airport are the current locations of the airport's 19 pods.
