After less than three years of operating routes from the United States to Mexico’s newest airport in Tulum, United Airlines is ending service to Tulum International Airport (TQO) after the holidays.
The airline’s last flight to Tulum from Newark will run for the last time on January 2, 2027, and its nonstop service from Houston will end after the flight on January 4, according to The Points Guy.
It had previously ended its Tulum routes from Chicago and Los Angeles.
Earlier in October, TravelPulse reported that both Aeromexico and Volaris suspended their routes to and from Tulum’s airport, citing “unfavorable market conditions,” and weakening demand.
The news comes on the heels of United’s lower-than-expected fourth-quarter forecast in late October, with record-high jet fuel costs dampening future hopes. Unsurprisingly, the airline is seeking to trim routes that have seen lower capacity this year.
United said in a statement that it regularly adjusts its schedule “based on seasonality, demand and other market factors.”
JetBlue also pulled out of Tulum, while Delta and American have both cut back their service to the airport.
