A new report highlighted changes JetBlue
Airways made to its baggage fee structure, including “peak” and “off-peak”
pricing.
According to NerdWallet,
JetBlue passengers traveling on peak travel dates will now pay $40 for the
first checked bag, a $5 increase from before. For those flying with a second
checked bag, the price increased by $10 to $60 each way.
Those prices are for those who book their baggage ahead of
time, but those who procrastinate on a peak travel day will be forced to pay $50
for the first bag and $70 for the second.
JetBlue
will determine the peak travel days, which include almost the entire summer,
the winter holiday travel period and much of Spring Break season. In total, peak
days make up 40 percent of the calendar for May through April 2025.
The fee increases, which NerdWallet dubbed surge pricing,
also apply to transatlantic flights.
On non-peak days, two checked bags booked more than 24 hours
in advance will cost $170 round-trip, while waiting until the day of travel to check
bags will run travelers $240 round-trip.
JetBlue is just the latest in a long line of carriers in the
United States that have recently raised the cost of checked bags. Last month, Alaska

Airlines, Delta
Air Lines and United
Airlines all raised prices.
