JetBlue Airways announced it would be cutting several routes as part of a cost-cutting effort.

Following the failed merger with Spirit Airlines, JetBlue is streamlining operations from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), cutting daily flights from 34 to 24, according to CNBC.com.

Destinations being eliminated from LAX include San Francisco, Seattle, Miami, Las Vegas, Reno, and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. In addition, the airline is cutting service to Bogota, Colombia; Quito, Ecuador; Lima, Peru; and Kansas City, Missouri, in June.

To maximize profit, JetBlue is ending flights between Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Austin, Atlanta, Nashville and Salt Lake City, as well as between New York and Detroit. Instead, the carrier will focus on more in-demand routes along the East Coast and popular Caribbean destinations.

“With less aircraft time available and the need to improve our financial performance, more than ever, every route has to earn its right to stay in the network,” JetBlue vice president of network planning Dave Jehn said.

In January, the airline announced it would be cutting some routes as a stepping stone for its return to profitability. In addition to leaving Baltimore-Washington International airport, JetBlue will also stop flying from John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City to Portland, Oregon, and San Jose, and from Westchester County, New York.

Earlier this month, JetBlue and Spirit announced the airlines have agreed to terminate their July 2022 merger agreement. Both sides mutually agreed that terminating is the best path forward, as required closing conditions, including receiving necessary legal and regulatory approvals, were unlikely to be met by July 24, 2024.
