Man Drives Car Onto Runway at Hannover Airport

Post-Christmas travel was interrupted in Langenhagen, Germany, today in the country's ninth largest airport.

Hannover Airport was temporarily shut down on Saturday after a man high on cocaine and amphetamines drove his silver BMW onto the tarmac.

The man drove his car through a passageway onto the runway and followed an Aegean Airlines airplane after it landed.

Federal police and explosive teams responded immediately. The driver drove his car to the area where the plans park. This is where officers overpowered the driver who was in his mid-20s.

All departures and landings were canceled as a precaution and flights resumed about four and a half hours later.

The man's car was searched by police and bomb disposal experts, but no dangerous items were discovered.

This Hannover Airport incident comes soon after authorities received tips about possible extremists surveilling German airports to conduct a terrorist attack.
