Southwest Airlines is cutting its nonstop route from Los Angeles to Maui, Hawaii, effective April 20, the low-cost carrier confirmed to The Points Guy.
Southwest will continue to serve Honolulu from Los Angeles and fly to Maui from five mainland U.S. cities, including Las Vegas, Phoenix, Oakland, Sacramento and San Jose, California.
The carrier's service from Los Angeles to Kona and Lihue may return in the summer but otherwise isn't set to resume in the winter, TPG points out.
Meanwhile, the Dallas-based airline is adding three new seasonal routes, including flights between Austin, Texas and Omaha, Nebraska beginning in November.
Southwest also plans to add limited-time service from Baltimore to Richmond and between Phoenix and Des Moines, Iowa.
The airline only began flying from Los Angeles to Hawaii as recently as 2021, offering travelers a budget-friendly way to reach the islands.
The route updates come after Southwest revealed plans to operate red-eye flights for the first time in its history.
