Three flight attendants
from Spirit Airlines doing a preflight check of an airplane were overcome by
fumes and had to be briefly hospitalized.
The incident happened at
Atlantic City International Airport, and the airplane was empty at the time.
A full explanation was
not given, and neither the airline nor the airport commented. A New Jersey
State Police spokesperson confirmed the incident and said the three flight
attendants were “exposed to fumes.”
Jeffrey Lebron, a detective, and
State Police spokesperson said Sunday: “The Spirit Airline aircraft
was empty at the time of the fumes exposure. The status of the three flight
attendants is unknown at this time."
There was no information about what
kind of fumes the employees came into contact with.
Lebron said all three flight attendants were
sent to the hospital for “non-life-threatening injuries” as a precaution.
The South Jersey Transportation
Authority — which oversees airport operations — referred questions to Spirit
Airlines. The airline did not provide a comment at the time.
It’s not the first time a Spirit Airlines jet has had a
problem with fumes or foul odors.
