A Turkish Airlines flight was forced to make an emergency landing Thursday after a Wi-Fi network was discovered under the name "bomb on board."
According to Reuters.com, passengers onboard the flight from Nairobi, Kenya, to Istanbul, Turkey, discovered the mobile hotspot and reported it to Turkish Airlines crew members.
An airline spokesperson said the captain of the flight called for an emergency landing at Khartoum International Airport in Sudan. Once the plane landed safely, security officials inspected all passengers and the aircraft, but no evidence of any explosive devices was found.
"Experts said the Wi-Fi network in question was created on board," Turkish Airlines said in a statement to Reuters. "No irregularities were seen after security procedures were carried out, and passengers were brought back on the plane once boarding restarted."
Turkish officials said all 100 passengers on the flight returned to the plane after the security examination, but they did not reveal if authorities found out which passenger created the Wi-Fi network.
Anyone with a mobile device can create personal Wi-Fi networks and name them what they want.
