The election of Donald Trump to the U.S. presidency has sparked heated debate among Americans all across the country. Those post-election emotions have even spilled over into airplane cabins.
In a recent video posted to YouTube, the pilot of a United Airlines flight from San Francisco to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico can be heard addressing passengers over the intercom following an apparent political dispute.
In the video's description, YouTuber Jon Bauer wrote that "some kinda scuffle broke out where an individual with a 'plaid shirt and a camo cap' said something racist (about being 'glad to have kept his guns') to an African American lady, and she began to cry and freak out."
The individuals were then separated.
"Let cooler heads prevail and we can talk and realize that we're all human beings, and we all can stick together and we can all feel for this country in our own way and that's what we should do," said the pilot in the video.
"If there's anybody that has a problem with this...there's another flight tomorrow. You're not gonna be on this one."
In an update to the video description Tuesday, Bauer said the individual who made the original comment later apologized.
A spokeswoman for United confirmed there was, in fact, a confrontation.
"Our pilot was attempting to diffuse an argument between two customers and get everyone safely to their destination," United spokeswoman Megan McCarthy wrote in an emailed statement to the Washington Post.
McCarthy confirmed that no passengers were removed from the flight.
