A woman was found dead inside a baggage processing area at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport on Thursday morning.
According to Chicago Fire Department spokesperson Larry Langford, firefighters were called to the busy airport shortly before 8 a.m. local time Thursday after receiving a report of someone pinned in machinery used to move baggage.
Upon arrival, first responders discovered the woman entangled in a conveyor belt system in a non-public baggage processing area.
The 57-year-old woman, who was not identified, was not an airport employee and authorities say it's unclear how and why she decided to enter the non-public area.
Surveillance footage shows her walking into the baggage room hours earlier around 2:30 a.m. but there's no video of what happened to her after and no one was watching the cameras in real time.
Chicago police have since opened an investigation into the incident.
