While you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone in the world who's uttered the words, "I love going to the airport," the pain of air travel only increases for families traveling with young children. The joys of parenthood do not include lugging around your weight in extra gear while cranky children are in tow.
To make travel a little easier this summer, Air Canada is rolling out several new family-friendly services specially designed for customers with young children.
For one, the airline and its subsidiary brands, Air Canada Rouge and Air Canada Express, will offer dedicated check-in counters for families at all its major hub airports. The airline is also offering families complimentary seat selection, so they can keep the whole group together onboard the aircraft.
"Summer is the time of family travel and Air Canada is pleased to offer special new services to make each trip easy and memorable for customers with young children," said Benjamin Smith, President Airlines and Chief Operating Officer at Air Canada. "With Air Canada Family Summer Travel Services, we are introducing airport and onboard programs that will simplify all aspects of the travel experience for families during their summer holiday travels. Parents will be able to enjoy peace of mind, so they can share in their children's delight in the magic of flying and freedom of summer."
Other program features include pre-boarding for families with children under the age of six, a complimentary Air Canada Skyrider activity book (for children up to age 11,) and priority re-booking in the event of schedule changes.
The airline also continues to offer its Unaccompanied Minor program (fees apply) for children between the ages of eight and 17, who are traveling without a parent or guardian on non-stop flights. Kids traveling solo will do so under the guidance of a dedicated agent at both the departure and arrival airports and will also be regularly monitored by a flight attendant onboard the aircraft.
The airline has also set up a web page for family travelers, that's chock full of tips and advice. There's even a blog with aspirational travel articles, including such titles as "London's Best Museums for Kids" and "Top Five: Travel Books for Kids."
Air Canada offers convenient connections throughout North America. Additionally, the airline recently announced it will roll out 25 new routes this summer.
