A Hawaiian Airlines flight was forced to make an emergency landing in San Francisco on Thursday after one of the attendants working the journey had a medical emergency and died.
According to NBC San Diego, Hawaiian Airlines Flight 50 departed from Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu at 4:13 p.m. Thursday en route to John F. Kennedy International Airport when the incident occurred.
The captain of the flight called for an emergency landing at San Francisco International Airport and touched the plane down safely at 11:05 p.m. local time. Airport spokesperson Doug Yakel said a crew member experienced a suspected heart attack, causing the diversion.
Yakel also confirmed Hawaiian Airlines personnel called for a doctor to attend to an emergency in first class and the "qualified medical professional" attempted CPR on the attendant until resuscitation efforts were halted before landing at the San Francisco airport.
"The San Mateo County Coroner declared the flight crew member deceased on arrival at SFO. Passengers were re-accommodated on other flights," Yakel told NBC San Diego.
The remaining passengers departed for New York at 5 a.m. local time Friday morning.
