Getting from London Heathrow Airport to downtown London can be a duanting journey. Fortunately, for the millions of passengers who pass through London's busiest airport, subsequent ground travel is about to get a whole lot easier.
That's because smart screens are coming to multiple terminals at the airport in 2015, according to Rob Gill of BuyingBusinessTravel.com.
The screens will feature live information pertaining to ground travel, which includes things like pricing and timetables for the Heathrow Express train as well as taxi service. The screens will compare the two different means of transporation and also reveal helpful information for arrivals like traffic updates and weather forecasts.
"The aim of the journey comparison generator is to enable Heathrow passengers to get into London as speedily, easily and cheaply as possible," said Heathrow Express Director Fraser Brown in a statement via Gill. "By harnessing many different sources of real-time data into one we are helping make this happen."
Brown went on to claim that "research shows Heathrow Express trains are three times faster than taxis and a quarter of the price," adding that the "screens show how that comparison varies minute to minute depending on traffic, weather and time of day."
What's more, information will be presented in various languages so that international arrivals unfamiliar with English will be able to utilize the new technology all the same.
You can watch Brown explain the smart screens in further detail in the below video:
The first smart screen was installed in the baggage reclaim area at Terminal 2, while additional screens will be unveiled at Terminals 3 and 5 later this year.
